My Story…

My name is Sarah Tokarek and I am the face behind Shuswap Adventure Girl!

I am a long-time resident of this “best place on earth” community we get to call home. And I am SO proud of it. I love it here and I love that I am living my glory years here and that my kids are born and raised here. I have a modest family that thrives on adventure and a GREAT life and I love to see others living a great life too. Because it is short, as we all know.

My Background…

I am not from here, I was born and raised in the Yukon and I come from a very adventurous and interesting family, to say the least. I was brought into a life of being outdoors and it is where I feel my absolute best and most happy. My Mom and Dad were avid adventurers, but not the typical kind. My Dad was a well known Conservation Officer for years in Watson Lake, Whitehorse, and Dawson City, Yukon. My Mom was an amazing trooper and went along on all of the adventures!

They have stories of survival and adventures beyond anyone's wildest dreams. For example, my Dad has been in 4 plane crashes and 1 helicopter crash and also attacked by a cinnamon bear. My Mom snowshoed nine months pregnant to the point of failure, finally being saved by our dog and Tinsley Johnson…..a Yukon trapper that later claimed that he saved my life as well as my Mothers.

Later, as a teen growing up in Prince George, we were an outdoors family, fishing and hunting and camping. Then I later navigated my way through the fun streets of Vancouver, where I studied at BCIT. My background is in Commercial and Healthcare Interior Design, Architecture, and Business, and I worked as an Associate and Senior Designer in the city for several years before moving here. I am proud of my northern, wild roots as well as my city roots.
Now, here I am, living the most lovely, temperate life in the beautiful Shuswap with my family…..three adorable children, a great community of friends, and all of you!

My Vision…

I started my blog and website, Shuswap Adventure Girl because I wanted to have a creative outlet that shares and expresses my love of where we live, our community, my passion and excitement for life, and my desire to help and include others. I also saw a need for information and resources that couldn't yet be found here.

My vision for Shuswap Adventure Girl is to become your local, trustworthy, and authentic guiding company for all things adventure, including family expeditions and events, Mommy and Me adventures as well as full-on touring, hiking, paddling, exploring, and overnight expeditions for all.

For now, I am a front-country hiking guide and look forward to meeting new faces and friends alike on the trails.
I am also working towards becoming an outdoor safety facilitator and intend to deliver fun and interesting programs to our community, specifically to all of the adventure kids out there.

I value relationships, the inclusion of others, and the sharing of knowledge and resources. I also very much value community involvement, collaborations, connection with people and places, and living life to the fullest, every day, every step.
